Finding Nemo

After our first program at Higher aground, Colin, Kelli, our new friend Jamie, and I decided to take off on a trip north.

We left Kenilworth and headed up to the tiny town of 1770. 1770 is the place that the famous sea caption, Caption Cook, first landed in Australia.

Once we were there we found a cheap camp site that was right on the beach. We got in just in the to watch the sun set. And take a few obligatory jump shots. :)

Thanks to one of our fellow staff at higher ground, we are all learning Poi. Poi involves swinging tethered weights through the air in variety of rhythmical and geometric patterns....hopefully. Our friend Amanda let us borrow her practice poi. We used real fire poi later on.

We spent a day in 1770. It is a quaint little ocean side town with some fun little cafes, shops, tour businesses and lots of places to rent paddle boards.

We decided to give upright paddle boarding a go.

And you can't hang out in Australia for too long with out some boomerang throwing practice!

The next day the four of us got on a boat for a hour and a half trip to Lady Musgrave Island. We saw whales and dolphins on the way.

When we arrived we were given the chance to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef, tour the island, and take a trip on a glad bottom boat.

Here are some underwhelming photos of fish.

We didn't actually find Nemo, but we did find some of his tank friends.

Can you tell Colin is excited??

The island is unique on that it is made purely from dead corral. There is no fresh water on the island and the birds that inhabit it are able to use salt water.  Everything else alive on the island uses rain water.

After a long day exploring, we got back on the boat and bid farewell to Lady Musgrave Island.

And here is the best picture I got of a whale....not the best, but it is all the proof I have.

Until next time, just keep swimming. :)
