Down Under with Mom and Dad

The best Christmas present!

My parents were able to take some time and visit Colin and I in Australia last December. They were here for just under two weeks and the time flew by so quickly.

Our first few days were spent in Queensland, visiting the places that Colin and I worked and then taking a trip up to 1770 (mentioned here... Finding Nemo Post) to do some snorkeling and beach fun.

While they have done their share of snorkeling in the Caribbean, it was wonderful to introduce them to the beauties of the Great Barrier Reef.

After our time in Queensland, we took a long day road trip down to New South Whales. We spent the next 4 days in Sydney. What a beautiful, unique city! We loved it.

We also spent an afternoon visiting the Sydney Wildlife Zoo.

Sydney is a city filled with all the charm of old Victorian style houses mixed with modern architecture. Each neighborhood offers a distinct style and vibe.

Following our time in the Sydney, we drove back up the coast, visiting wineries and small town diners along the way. We then explored the city of Brisbane.

One highlight of our trip was the food! Italian, Chinese, Korean, Irish, Indian, Mexican, sea foods, Thai, and of course, the classic Australian meat pies!

After our time in Brisbane, we drove to the airport and had a teary (on my part) goodbye. My parents are such wonderful, warm, generous people. Their example makes me strive to be a better person.

Being able to show them what we had been up to over the past 6 months and discovering parts of Australia together was such a wonderful gift to Colin and me.  We feel very blessed.
